Portugal Wins Best Golf Destination For 3rd Consecutive Year In World Golf Awards 2024

World Golf Awards 2024 occurred in Funchal, Madeira from 21-22 November 2024. The event was conducted at the Savoy Palace. In this event, Portugal has won the “Best Golf Destination” in Europe for the third consecutive year.

Portugal Wins Best Golf Destination

Portugal was awarded with the “Best Golf Destination” in the world. This award was given at the Savoy Palace in Funchal, Madeira. The event also included some golf rounds at Santo da Serra and Palheiro courses for the judges and the guests. Portugal also received an award for “Best Golf Destination” in Europe for the third consecutive year. The managing director of the World Golf Awards, Chris Frost, appreciated Madeira for being a well-coordinated host. They managed to organize the event quite well which included top-notch clubs, facilities, and other activities.

This event marked the first time the World Golf Awards were hosted by Madeira. It is renowned that Madeira has the best conditions for golfing. The Ministry for Tourism of Portugal believes that growth in the golf industry is due to more international tourists who visit the country to play golf. Similarly, the golf events in Portugal bring more opportunities for tourism within the country. The tourism industry of Portugal has stated:

[Success in golf] can be attributed to the integrated tourist experience, good air, and land accessibility, an exceptional welcome, high-quality sports, and hotel infrastructures that cater to different profiles of golfers, and an excellent quality/price ratio.

11^th Edition Of World Golf Awards

Portugal received the two awards at the 11^th edition of the World Golf Awards 2024. These awards took place in Funchal, Madeira. Last year, Madeira was the recipient of 4 awards including the “Best Emerging Destination in the World”. The golf association in Portugal stated:

[Golf Sector] contributes to an increase in tourist revenue and to the expansion of tourist activity throughout the year and throughout the territory.

These awards are given on the basis of votes. Golf professionals from more than 100 countries take part in these votes. These professionals are part of the Oscars of the tourism industry and the World Travel Awards. Portugal has 92 golf courses within the country that are located in various regions. Most of these golf clubs are located in Lisbon, Algarve, Porto, and Northern regions. After consideration, Portugal received the two awards in the following categories:

• Best Golf Destination in the World
• Best Golf Destination in Europe (Third Consecutive Year)

Madeira also received an award for the “Best Emerging Golf Destination 2024”. Some of the other golf facilities in Portugal were also appreciated and awarded. These awards are as follows:

• Santo da Serra Golf Course: Received an award for “World’s Best Par 3 Hole” and “World’s Best Sustainable Water Capture System”.
• Palheiro Golf: Received an award for “World’s Best Panoramic Clubhouse”. This golf club has a beautiful view of Funchal City on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other side.

The Regional Secretary for Economy, Tourism and Culture, Eduardo Jesus appreciated the efforts of these awards. She stated:

[These rewards are] a reward for the work that has been carried out in favor of the development, promotion, and communication of this sport.
