Cafôfo spoke with determination about his vision for Madeira future at a press conference in Funchal.

He said:

Today I formally present my candidacy for the leadership of PS/Madeira and, without mincing words or any doubts to anyone, I am a candidate for president of PS/Madeira and I will be a candidate for president of the Regional Government of Madeira for the PS

He also expressed gratitude to the approximately one thousand party members who signed his strategy motion titled Stability and Commitment emphasizing their shared belief in a brighter future for the region.

Fairer Vision For Madeira

The Socialist leader outlined his vision for transforming Madeira into a fairer and more inclusive region. Cafôfo emphasized his commitment to addressing key issues such as housing, healthcare, education, employment, and youth empowerment.

Cafôfo said:

Madeira’s future must be built on solid commitments

He highlights the importance of creating opportunities for young people and valuing their talents. Cafôfo also mentioned the need to focus on the aging population.

He said:

We must ensure that our elderly live with dignity and have access to quality services

He stressed the importance of social programs that leave no one behind and ensure that everyone has a chance to participate in Madeira’s growth.

Criticism Of Current Governance

Cafôfo was vocal in his criticism of the current government led by Miguel Albuquerque of the Social Democratic Party (PSD). He highlighted ongoing judicial investigations involving several members of the Regional Government which he believes have tarnished the credibility of the administration.

Cafôfo remarked:

These investigations reveal ethical and moral weaknesses of those who have been in power for nearly 50 years

He also pointed to issues in public infrastructure and economic management under the current administration.

Cafôfo stated:

Our roads, school and hospitals are in dire need of investment. The focus has been on short term gains rather than building sustainable future.

He urged the people of Madeira to demand better from their leaders.  Cafôfo explained that the upcoming regional elections represent a pivotal moment for Madeira.

He said:

This election is about more than choosing a new government. It is about deciding between a past of stagnation and a future of progress. The region can no longer afford to be held hostage by a government marked by scandals and harmful management of public affairs.

Cafôfo also underscored the importance of restoring trust in public institutions.

Cafôfo said:

Transparency and accountability must be foundation of our governance. Only then can we rebuild the confidence of citizens in politics and public service.

He urged voters to embrace this opportunity for meaningful change.

Priorities For The Future

Cafôfo campaign is focused on addressing the region’s most urgent challenges. He plans to tackle the housing crisis by increasing the availability of affordable homes.

He said:

Everyone deserves safe and comfortable place to live

Cafôfo aims to reduce waiting times and improve access to essential services particularly for those in rural areas in healthcare. He also intends to implement measures to raise family incomes and create more job opportunities.

The Socialist leader is particularly passionate about investing in youth. He said:

Our young people are the future of Madeira. We must create conditions that allow them to thrive here rather than seek opportunities elsewhere.

He proposed scholarships and training programs to help young people achieve their potential. Cafôfo presented his candidacy as a chance for Madeira to embrace renewal and progress.

Cafôfo urged voters to choose a government that prioritizes the common good and works tirelessly to solve the region problems.

He said:

Together, we can build a Madeira that is fair, inclusive, and prosperous

Cafôfo also highlighted the importance of collaboration. He noted:

Progress comes from unity. We can overcome challenges by working together and create a future we can all be proud of.

Cafôfo message of hope and commitment resonates with many who are eager for change with the elections fast approaching. His vision will translate into electoral success remains to be seen but his candidacy has undoubtedly injected new energy into the political landscape of Madeira.
