An official bid has been submitted by Portugal along with Spain and Morocco to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup. This bid was submitted at the FIFA headquarters in Paris by three countries.
Official Documents Submitted for World Cup Bid
The formal documents have been sent to the President of FIFA, Gianni Infantino in Paris. The three Presidents of these football federations have submitted the bid. The bids were submitted by the respective presidents of the football federations:
- President of Portuguese Football Federation (PFF): Fernando Gomes
- President of Royal Moroccan Football Federation (MFF): Fouzi Lekjaa
- President of Royal Spanish Football Federation (SFF): Pedro Rocha
The general secretary of the Spanish Football Federation, Alvaro de Miguel handed over the documents on behalf of the Spanish Football president. It was a very big day for Portugal and its people. The PFF President, Fernando Gomes said:
The Bid Book delivered here today anticipates an agenda for the future. It is a bid that includes environmental aspects as a structuring pillar of the event, a bid that combines the needs of the competition with the expectations of the FIFA World Cup host cities, and a bid that promotes inclusion and diversity for all. This is the basis on which our entire bid is built.
Significance of the 2030 World Cup
This will be the first time in the 100-year FIFA history that the World Cup will be held on two continents if FIFA decides to accept the bid of these three countries. This will be beneficial to promote culture from various countries and to enhance the environment. The bid has included all the plans for the event like transport, security, and accommodation.
Three stadiums are chosen at Portugal which will be hosting the 2030 World Cup. Two of them are located in Lisbon and one is located in Porto. The three stadiums chosen are as follows:
- Estádio da Luz (Lisbon)
- Estádio José Alvalade (Lisbon)
- Estádio do Dragão (Porto)
Estádio da Luz stadium which is located in Lisbon will also host one of the semi-final of the tournament which has a capacity of 60,000.
After receiving the bid in France, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said:
Your three countries have already given so much to football, countries with a great passion for the game, great organizational skills, and a shared vision of what football and its values should be. It is fantastic that you have united two continents in the dream of hosting the FIFA World Cup. Football unites the world, and you are proving it with this bid.
The final decision for hosting the 2024 World Cup will be finalized by taking a vote by the entire FIFA Congress. This vote will take place on 11th December 2024 so citizens from these three countries must wait for the final decision before they start preparing for the World Cup.
