Panattoni is a USA-based company that has decided to invest 25 million Euros to build a Logistics base in Portugal. It was founded in 1986 in California and has been operating in Europe since 2005. The desired location of this project will be Santarém, which is near the A1 motorway.
Panattoni To Build A Logistics Base
The logistics base project is aimed to be completed by the end of the year 2025. The project is named “Fort project”. The project will build multiple warehouses for storage purposes. The total area for the project is 34,344 meters which will be covered within a year. The main components of the logistics base are as follows:
- 48 docks which will have the facility for loading and unloading.
- It will be able to supply 800 KW power of electrical power, which will be enough for the whole area.
- A manoeuvering dock that will have a length of 35 meters.
- The base will have a free height of 10.6 meters as well.
Pedro Almeida, who is the managing director of the Fort Projects, spoke to the media Santarém region which will have a great impact on the local people.
We are talking about dozens of jobs, and it will also benefit smaller companies located in this region. In my opinion, this project could be a reference for new constructions in the region.

Why Santarém Was The Chosen Location
The location for the logistic base was hard to find because it should always be near the motorway and away from the local residential area. This is why Santarém was selected because it had access to remote areas where the project could be built.
Mr. Pedro Almeida also stated about choosing the location of the logistics base which took some time:
These platforms must be close to the motorways, otherwise they will have a very significant impact on the population. Santarém, from this point of view, is excellent because it has direct access to the motorway.
Another reason for choosing this location as the potential point of building the base is due to the strategic location of the place. This place is near Azambuja, which holds the biggest logistics cell in the whole country.
João Leite, the vice president of Santarém Municipal Council (SMC) told the media that the area holds a very significance in the industry and many other companies are looking to hold their roots in the place. The location of the place offers them a great advantage, and this is why some more companies might seek to build at Santarém in the near future.
The mayor of the city also believes that projects like these will include the local public, and this will generate revenue within the region. More jobs will be offered, which can be a source of revenue for locals.
Panattoni already has two more projects going on in the country. One is in Alongo, Porto and the second project is in Santa Iria de Azoia, Lisbon. This is the third project that will be started by the company. The company has also stated about the completion of the project:
[The project] has already begun with the beginning of the earthmoving phase and is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2025.
