A newly built roundabout creates sinkhole was formed at Estrada Senhora da Saúde, Faro. A panic was caused when spectators saw a car being sunken in the road due to a sinkhole. The authorities arrived soon at site but this incident scared a few people around.
Car Fell Down The Sinkhole
The incident occured at the Estrada Senhora da Saúde roundabout. Citizens saw water being flown on the streets. This was due to the result of broken roundabout. The Roundabout was newly constructed when this unfortunate incident occured. This spot is known to be a blackspot of the area. Several incidents have already happened at the same location.

People reported that the streets began to be flooded. The source of the water was from the roundabout. There was no sign of an incident yet at this time. Locals believe that they were astonished to find water on the streets of Estrada Senhora da Saúde because it is a rare site. It is believed that around 05:30 PM in Portugal time, the locals heard a strange sound. Later, it was found that a car had fallen in a sinkhole.
This sinkhole was caused due to accumulation of water on the road. The water caused the asphalt to be weak which finally broke down. The reason for sudden rush of water was a rupture in an underground pipe. This pipe caused water pressure to break the surface of asphalt. The roundabout was made for the traffic to move smoothly. This area is already quite busy at the peak hours but now, it is not functional till further notice.
Luckily, there was no injury sustained by any person during the formation of sinkhole. The authorities of Water and Waste management were quick to take action. They employed their men to fix the sinkhole as soon as possible. Since this is one of the busy roads, work will be done quickly to allow the traffic to pass through.
Past Troubles According To Citizens
This roundabout is the most recent construction in Faro. Still, some of the older residents complain that this is not the first time that water has been disrupted. They claim that water disruptions occured during the construction phase of this same roundabout as well. This incident was found quite late when water started to flow on the roads. It is estimated by looking at the size of the hole in water pipe that water had been leaking for quite some time.
Such incidents have disturbed the nearby residents who complain about the lack of attention. There should be a permanent solution for this problem. Although, the authorities were quick to solve the issue when highlighted, but these incidents should not happen at the first place. The local residents are fed up with the water issue. They claim that water related problems occur repeatedly. This is a source of danger as kids are playing on the streets and cars are being driven on the road. It may put them in danger due to such issues. Authorities should look towards resolving such problems with permanent solutions.
