President of the Intermunicipal Community of Beira Baixa, João Lobo also demanded the construction of this road as soon as possible. He stated:
Our expectation is that 2027 will be the year in which, at least in the first section, there will be machines working.
This project also included an investment plan which would further improve the national roads of the region. PNI2030 was planned to be divided into further 2 sectors. One path would be 15 KM and the other would be 40 KM. The 15 KM road network is approved by the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). This agency rejected the 40 KM stretch of the road. Government officials expect to get approval for this road. They stated:
The remaining 40 kilometers, with the EIA, rejected and with the corridor through which it will pass yet to be defined.
Meetings Will Be Held In October
There will be meetings held in the month of October for this matter. The leaders of the alliance have requested to meet all the parliamentary groups. They have demanded the presence of the Portuguese Minister of Infrastructure, Miguel Pinto Luz for the next meeting. This meeting is planned to be held in October of this year.
Politicians believe that the project should be resumed for maximum output. This project has been halted for so long. The only solution is to resume it as soon as possible. The municipalities of Craceres and Badajoz have stated to support the Government to make this project possible. Citizens are also eager to use this road to travel to Spain and other countries. This project is the future of Europe, and it will connect many European countries by road.
It is urged by the Government to the local authorities of municipalities to join this cause. This includes the municipalities in the districts of Leiria, Coimbra, Portalegre, and Santarém. There is no direct route from these municipalities to this road, but they would benefit from the construction of this road network.
Development Of The Project
The future road development in the region of Castelo Branco and Monfortinho has already been planned. The government has also decided to give a tender to the company which will construct this road network. This project will bring the central area of Portugal much closer to Spain. More goods will be transported from one country to another. It will also improve the financial revenue of both countries.
Infraestruturas de Portugal had already won the project of IC31 which is between Castelo Branco and Monfortinho. This section is divided into two sections as follows:
- IC31-A23: Proença-a-Velha
- IC31-EN239: Proença-a-Velha and Monfortinho
The base price for the tender of this project is 1.8 million Euros. This project will be completed with an estimated cost of 120-150 million Euros.
