Portugal will be helping the African countries to fight against Mpox which has been quite deadly in that region. Germany, France, and Spain had already announced to donate the vaccines to the African countries this week. Now Portugal will be going to these European countries to provide relief.

The Ministry of Health made this announcement to donate the vaccines to the African countries. There has been a rise in the cases of the Mpox lately. This is an alarming situation for the African countries. Most of them don’t have many resources to fight this disease alone. The help from European countries will make it easy for them. The World Health Organization (WHO) has already declared this issue a “global public health emergency”.

Ana Paula Martins, the minister of Health in Portugal stated that the country is happy to help tackle this problem. Portugal can send aid to other countries. She stated:

Portugal currently has a stock of vaccines against the mpox virus and is willing to donate between 10% and 15% of this stock of vaccines.

European Commission Requests Members To Help

The European Commission has requested the European Union (EU) to ask for medicines for Africa. Portugal has now responded to that request and the country will help Africa by providing medicines. Ana Paula has informed us that the availability of medicines will be dependent on the usage. Coordination with the European Union is underway regarding this matter. Anna Paul also stated:

The Ministry of Health has already requested that the board of HERA (European Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority) be informed of this intention and availability. The provision of vaccines will naturally depend on coordination at the European Union level

A few days back, the Ministry of Health announced that they were checking their stock of vaccines. The amount of mpox vaccines to be donated will be dependent on the available stock and the internal needs of the citizens. Mpox is considered to be a deadly disease. It is spread from animals, and it can be transferred to other humans by physical contact or touch. The symptoms of mpox is fever, muscle pain, and skin lesions.
