Faro has been judged through various factors after which it received the position of third place. It has been reported by the European Environment Agency that there are 3.6 micrograms of fine particles for 1 cubic meter of air in Faro. This is why it has been placed at the third spot. However, Umea has the same value which is 3.6 micrograms of fine particles but still it ranks above Faro. The only reason is that Umea has the same value as half the population.

Parameters To Rank Cities

That is why Umea has been ranked above the Portuguese municipality. Uppsala, which is another Swedish city, has taken the first spot for the cleanest air in Europe. It has a value of 3.5 micrograms of fine particles per cubic meter. The position in the list is allotted according to the ratings received for each city. The lower the rating for fine particles, the higher the ranking of a city.

Another Portuguese city was on this list which is located in the Madeira region. The city of Funchal was ranked eighth place in the list provided by the European Environment Agency. There are a total of 372 cities on the list. Funchal secured the eighth position which is a major achievement out of 372 cities. Funchal had a fine particle rating of 4.4 micrograms for one cubic meter. The capital of Portugal, Lisbon has been placed at the 38th position in the list. It has a fine particle rating of 7 micrograms per cubic meter.
