ANEPC Has Registered 1329 Incidents Regarding Strong Winds Due To Storm Kirk

Portugal faced strong winds which caused havoc in the country. The National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) has registered 1329 incidents regarding the strong winds. These strong winds are an aftereffect due to Storm Kirk.

Strong Winds Due To Storm Kirk

These strong winds were recorded in Portugal between 6 pm on Tuesday to 9 am on Wednesday. Most of these incidents involve fallen trees at various locations within the country. The ANEPC operation officer, José Miranda has stated that these incidents occurred mostly at night on 8 October. Many trees have fallen due to these winds within the country. These accounted for more than 77% of the total incidents.

Most of these trees fell in the north of the country where wind pressure was much greater. This affected the Northern region of the country the most. 988 incidents occurred in the northern areas of Portugal. 415 of these incidents were witnessed in the area of the Metropolitan region of Porto. It is stated by the news:

The northern region was the most affected by the bad weather, with 988 incidents, with the highest number, 415, being recorded in the Metropolitan Area of Porto, with many trees falling due to the wind.

Many Vehicles Damaged Due To Winds

These strong winds did not damage many homes, rather it did damage a lot of vehicles. The bad weather included heavy winds with dust blowing in most regions of the country. Minho line in the Barcelos area was affected by these winds. This line was interrupted by the fallen trees while it was traveling at 10 am in the morning. It is stated that:

3,850 operators and 1,321 land resources were involved in these incidents.

The Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) declared it a major issue. It also issued yellow warnings in many districts which were majorly affected by the Kirk Storm. The north and center of the country were more affected than the other areas of Portugal. Strong winds with heavy rainfall followed in the northern region at noon on Wednesday. Storm Kirk has affected the overall schedule of the people. It has caused some minor damage to the country. The Government hopes that these winds can stop in the near future.
