Tourism in the Algarve has seen a sudden rise for August. The Algarve prices high 8-10% Algarve which is due to more overnight stays in the later days of the month.
Algarve Prices Have Increased Due To More Tourists
The government is happy to see a rise in tourism within the country. This is why prices all over the country has slightly been increased, specially in Algarve. The second half of the August month has been quite good for business in the city. There are more and more tourists coming in Algarve and staying overnight. The overnight stays in the vicinity have increased as compared to the first 15 days of the month. The month has not even ended, yet the numbers of tourists in later half of month has crossed more than the early half of the month.
Hélder Martins who is the President of the Algarve Hotels and Tourist Enterprises Association (AHETA) was delighted to see more tourists. He believes that August is always the busy month for tourists. Therefore, it was better to raise prices for more revenue. He stated:
So far we are satisfied. The second half of the month promises to be better than the first, with the exception of the last week, which only fills up at the last minute. However, we have reason to be satisfied with the preparations made for this August, which is the peak.
Why Are Prices 8-10 % High
One of the directors for the largest hotel association in Algarve believes that around 8-10 % prices have been increased. This is due to more products being purchased for the tourists. The President of the Algarve Hotels and Tourism has also conveyed that there has been an increase in revenue for the hotel industry.
Many of these tourists in Algarve are believed to be the Portuguese people. A lot of Portuguese travel from other cities to visit one of the main attractions of the country, Algarve. The director believes that Portuguese may be less in number within Algarve, but the main customer of expensive hotels are Portuguese. The main focus is to improve the quality of the products and keep the price a little lower to make it affordable.
Hélder Martins states that last year in July, the prices were lowered than the actual prices. This made the place affordable for the normal public. It also promoted the tourism within Algarve and the prices were again increased in August. This strategy showed an increase in tourism. Hélder Martins used the same strategy this year. He states that the outcome will be laid upon us at the end of the month. He further hopes that the outcome will generate enough revenue to continue this strategy.
What Is The Occupancy Rate In Algarve
The data shows that the average occupancy rate for a room was 83.6 % in the month of July. This is almost the same value as that of the last year, which was only 0.3 % higher than this year. There was a drop in tourists from Portuguese themselves. The main rise was from the people of Sweden (+0.8 %), Netherlands (+0.4 %) and Germany (+0.3 %).
Hélder Martins further reassures the public that there is enough space available for towels at the beach. He also adds that the rent for the overnight stays can be lower in some of the hotels. The President of the tourism industry believes that there have been some rumors recently that demerit the Algarve. However, he clears all the rumors and said that Algarve is one of the best places to visit during the summers.
