Security is an important issue and this meeting will bring key officials together to find solutions. Many citizens are concerned about crime and public safety that makes this discussion essential. The government aims to address these concerns by analyzing the latest security trends and policies.

Speaking to the media at Culturgest in Lisbon, the President said:

I learned today that the Internal Security Report will be released and delivered to the Assembly of the Republic at the end of March, with important data, definitive data on security matters

The government and security forces will use this information to assess current policies. Security experts believe that updated data is crucial for making effective decisions on law enforcement strategies.

Because the report is so important the President will wait for its release before setting a meeting date. This approach ensures that any decisions made will be based on accurate and comprehensive information.

He added:

And therefore, I will wait until the end of March to, given the final data from the Internal Security Report, then examine the dates and consider which is the best date to convene a Council of State

Meeting Background And Justification

Last week Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa told journalists he had received responses from State Councillors. He had sent them a letter regarding André Ventura’s request for a meeting.

Security has become a major concern with many people worried about crime and public safety. The President has been actively reviewing the concerns raised by different political leaders and security officials.

The President said at the Belém Palace:

I received the responses, the last of which arrived at the Council last Friday, and I said I would analyze them and consider them. We are at the beginning of the year, normally there are two or three councils per semester

The responses reflect different views on the country security challenges. Some State Councillors have expressed support for an urgent meeting while others prefer a more structured discussion after reviewing the security report.

Security is a priority but the President will take his time before deciding on a meeting date.

He said last Tuesday:

So I will consider it. There is still plenty of time to decide on future Council meetings,

He wants to ensure the discussion is well-prepared and productive. A rushed meeting could lead to incomplete solutions, so careful planning is necessary. The President believes that a well-structured meeting will yield better results in addressing security concerns.

Scheduling Considerations

The most recent Council of State meeting took place on Wednesday. It included former Italian Prime Minister Mário Draghi and ex-President of the European Central Bank (ECB). The President explained that this meeting had been scheduled well in advance.

Such meetings provide an opportunity for key stakeholders to discuss critical national and international matters.

He explained:

It was a commitment from the previous year, with an invitation made a long time ago

Such high-level meetings provide valuable insights on economic and security issues. Hosting international figures like Draghi also strengthens Portugal’s international relationships. Discussions with global leaders bring fresh perspectives on tackling security and economic challenges.

Another meeting was held on January 17 before that. It was required by the Constitution to discuss dissolving the Regional Legislative Assembly of Madeira.

André Ventura could not attend because he arrived late. These meetings often have political consequences beyond their main topics. The dissolution of the Assembly was a significant political event that required careful consideration by the Council.

Council Of State Meeting Importance

The President’s decision to call a Council of State meeting will be closely followed. Government officials and advisors will discuss security strategies based on new data. Law enforcement and policymakers will review current measures and suggest improvements. The goal is to ensure public safety while maintaining civil liberties and fairness.

The Internal Security Report will provide important information. This data will help shape the discussion at the meeting. Addressing security concerns is key to maintaining stability and public trust.

A well-informed approach will allow for better solutions to prevent crime and enhance security measures. People will wait for more details about the meeting’s date and agenda. Security remains a priority for the government. The Council of State discussions may lead to changes in policing, surveillance, and security policies.

The goal is to improve safety and preparedness across the country. Citizens hope that this meeting will lead to stronger security strategies that protect communities. Public trust in security policies is essential. The government aims to reassure people that their safety is first priorty.
