Portugal To Receive 114 New Hotels Out Of 1100 By 2026

Europe has planned to build 1100 new hotels and Portugal will receive 114 of them. The Lodging Econometrics conveyed that these hotels will be built by 2026.

New Hotels To Be Built In Portugal

Lodging Econometrics (LE) has published a report that states that Portugal will receive 114 hotels in their share. The total number of projects in the region is reported to be 1680. This will comprise 249,454 rooms to be built at the end of 2026. The 114 hotels that will be built in Portugal will have 14,247 rooms. This places the country at fifth place in Europe to have planned for new projects. The first spot is taken by the United Kingdom with 306 projects to be planned by the year 2026.   2. Germany: 178 Projects (28,637 rooms)
  3. France: 120 Projects (12,831 rooms)
  4. Turkey: 117 Projects (17,856 rooms)
  5. Portugal: 114 Projects (14,247 rooms)

114 new hotels Portugal out of 1100 in Europe

Most of these projects will be in the capital of Project, Lisbon. Lisbon is placed at the third rank among cities with most projects. You can check the complete list for cities that are above Lisbon for most projects planned by 2026:

  1. London, United Kingdom: 76 Projects (14,954 rooms)
  2. Istanbul, Turkey: 50 Projects (8,397 rooms)
  3. Lisbon, Portugal: 36 Projects (4,425 rooms)
  4. Dublin, Ireland: 26 Projects (5,012 rooms)
  5. Düsseldorf, Germany: 24 Projects (4,448 rooms)

Statistics Of The Upcoming Projects And Rooms

Europe had around 775 completed projects by the end of the second quarter of 2024. There were 117,908 rooms to be built within Europe. This represented 45% of projects for the whole complete project. It also represents about 47 % of the total rooms that are to be built. The number of projects that will be starting construction in the next 12 months is 412 projects (or 59,850 rooms).

Some of these projects are mentioned in the early planning phase. The total number of such projects is 513 projects or 71,696 rooms. This represents about 31% of the total projects and 29% of the total rooms to be built. So, in total, 31% of the total planned projects will be started in the upcoming 12 months.

Europe witnessed the development of some new hotels in the latter part of this year. 81 new hotels and around 10,569 new rooms were made. This is a staggering 72% increase as compared to the start of this year. A total of 128 new hotels were built and 16,829 rooms were built around Europe in the 1st and 2nd quarter.

More Hotels To Be Built In Future

Lodging Econometrics (LE) has stated that according to their prediction, 202 new hotels and 27,106 new rooms will be opened. This construction will be done by the end of the third and fourth quarters of this year. This will bring the total number of newly constructed hotels to 330 hotels and 43,935 rooms.

The number of new hotel openings in Europe will keep rising in the upcoming years. This is due to the sheer volume of hotel projects that are already under construction. A total of 368 new hotels and 52,760 rooms are set to open in 2025. Further, 427 new hotels and 59,606 rooms are expected to be opened by 2026. This is why there will be more construction of hotels even after 2026.
