Workers of Porto Public Transport Company (STCP) have decided to go on strike. They demand to increase the salary of all the workers otherwise transport will be suspended. This demonstration will begin next Monday.
Transport Strike In Porto
This strike from the workers will take place in front of the administrative building. The General Confederation of the Portuguese Workers (CGTP) is expected to be present at this demonstration as well. Another strike was carried out by the Union last month which was attended by many people. This is another call for the strike as the demand for better wages is still not met. The coordinator of the Urban Transport Workers Union, José Manuel Silva has stated:
[There will be] another strike for all STCP workers, for the whole day [on Monday].

Union has already demonstrated their protest against the low wages given to transport workers. This new demonstration will be the combination of two semi-partial strikes. The Workers of Porto Public Transport Company is looking to organize a huge protest to send a clear message. A partial strike is already in progress since November 2023. The workers come to strike during their last two hours of work.
Another major strike was called in September which was the 50-hour strike by the workers. This strike was followed by a demonstration of another strike during the first 5 hours of work.
Demand For Salary Increase By Workers
The main demand of the workers is the increase in their salary. They believe that their salary is far less compared to the hours they are working. Another demand from the workers is the functionality of the Professional Development System (SEP). Workers want the company to agree to the justified absences of workers. These absences should also count the sick leaves of workers.
Workers have devised a plan to demonstrate during the morning and afternoon as well. The protest will be carried out in front of the Via Norte collection station during the morning. This protest is highly likely to be joined by Tiago Oliveira, secretary of the General Confederation of Portuguese Workers. Then, the workers will protest again in front of the company’s office at 2:30 pm. This office is located in Torre das Antas.

Response By STRUN
Sindicato dos Trabalhadores de Transportes Rodoviários e Urbanos do Norte (STRUN) has responded to this strike. They have launched a criminal complaint to the DIAP [Department of Investigation and Criminal Prosecution] since the last protest carried out on 16 September. This complaint has been filed against the disobedience of two administrators. These two administrators signed a document so workers would comply with the minimum services. STRUN has also informed that a disciplinary meeting may be called against them. The statement reads as follows:
A complaint was also filed against the same people with the ACT [Working Conditions Authority], for pressuring workers, abusing minimum services, and preventing workers from starting work after a short strike period, forcing them to work five hours.
