The Public Security Police (PSP) is implementing fines on foreigners who have overstayed in Portugal. These fines are imposed if someone has an expired visa while still staying in the country. The fine on foreigners for overstaying is imposed on these people is mostly around 250 Euros.

Fines Imposed On People With Expired Visa

The Government has decided to impose fines on foreigners who are staying in the country with their expired visas. These fines will vary according to the number of days the visa expires. The Public Security Police (PSP) has also confirmed these fines. It is essential to make such measures to stop people from staying in the country with expired visas in the future.

These fines that are imposed on foreigners are not 700 Euros because Article 192 forbids them. This article is based on the law of Foreigners. According to this article, the PSP police can fine people with expired visas from a range of 40 Euros to 250 Euros. These fines are only implied if people stay more than the expected days stated on their visa. The amount of the fine will be based on the number of days spent in the country without a valid visa. The authorities have stated that the amount of 700 Euros is only implemented if it is a case of fraud done by any foreigner. The official statement is as follows:

No foreign citizen has received sines of €700, the maximum amount provided by the law.

How Much Fine Imposed On Expired Visa

The police have clearly stated that the fine on any foreigner will be dependent on the number of days overspent in the country. They have specified the range of fine from 80 Euros to 160 Euros if the period has not been exceeded by more than 30 days. This amount of fine can even be higher if more days are spent in the country without a valid visa.

A fine of 260 Euros to 320 Euros will be implemented if the number of days is exceeded by 30 days but less than 90 days. This amount will increase to 320 Euros to 500 Euros if it is more than 90 days but less than 180 days. The higher amount of fine is 500 Euros to 700 Euros which is imposed if a person has stayed more than 180 days. The total summary of the fines imposed for overstaying in the country is as follows:

  • 80 Euros-160 Euros: Less than 30 days overspent in the country.
  • 260 Euros-320 Euros: More than 30 days but less than 90 days.
  • 320 Euros-500 Euros: More than 90 days but less than 180 days.
  • 500 Euros-700 Euros: More than 180 days

These amounts of fines are implemented according to the law. It is implemented according to those people who have stayed more time in Portugal than they were allowed. This is associated normally with up to 90 days and can be further extended to more than 90 days. This fine is also implemented on those foreigners who have exercised any kind of activity that needs a visa. The authorities have made an official statement which is as follows:

In situations where it is demonstrated, or the person declares that they exercise or have exercised any activity that requires a specific visa.
