The Government of Portugal has decided to spend 7.6 million Euros on both flu and Covid-19 vaccines. This decision has been taken so more people are vaccinated by the end of November. The COVID-19 and flu vaccinations will also be available in pharmacies across the country as €7.6 million spent on Vaccines.
Government Takes Initiative For Vaccines
This executive order was published in the Official Gazette where the government has announced a package of 7.6 million only for vaccinations. The government believes that health always comes first so this step was necessary to take before moving forward. This executive order is signed by Ana Povo, the Secretary of State for Health. She has told the media that not only the government will focus on buying the vaccines, rather they will also focus on the health budget as well. She believes that people should expect a budget increase of up to 7,600,000 Euros.
The increase in the health budget will help the government to take better care of people in hospitals. It will be utilized for buying new instruments for the hospitals. This will ensure the high standards being achieved by the health sector in the country. The statement from the government is as follows:
Based on the evidence that respiratory viruses circulate more frequently during the winter months, we intend to start the 2024-2025 autumn-winter seasonal vaccination campaign earlier and ensure that the largest number of eligible people will be protected by the end of November, providing greater protection during the period of greatest risk.
The government has also appreciated the efforts taken by the pharmacies for the flu vaccinations. The role of pharmacies to provide vaccines to people with a much better speed made a lot of people safe. This ensured the protection of the people from the flu in a very short period.
Plans For Flu And Covid-19
The plan for battling the flu and COVID-19 was planned by the Health Emergency Services, and it was presented by the government last May. It was already decided that the government will focus on the next autumn-winter on vaccinations for both flu and Covid-19. This is why more focus has been laid on high doses of flu vaccines that too free of charge to people who are 85 years old or even above.
It is the responsibility of the government that these doses are given to everyone who is living in the residential facilities, even the facilities for elderly people. It is noted that Covid-19 is no longer a great threat, but the World Health Organization (WHO) says that all the countries of the European Commission should have vaccines for Covid-19. All the members should have the vaccines present so they can tackle any problem in the future. It is also essential to keep the vaccines so the government can tackle the strains of the SARS-Cov 2 virus that was spread.
Vaccination against influenza and COVID-19 is an extremely important public health intervention to prevent transmission, to reduce morbidity and mortality in people at greatest risk, and to enable the health system to manage winter pressures, helping to reduce the demand for health care and the likelihood of hospitalization.
