Portugal has recently fallen behind the Netherlands in the UEFA standings at the end of the previous week. However, the overall success of the Portuguese clubs succeed on the international stage has made them much closer to England.

Clubs In Portugal Succeed At International Stage

The success of the Portuguese clubs has been remarkable during the 2024-2025 season. This has made them much closer than ever to England. The latest round of the UEFA stage was conducted last week. Portuguese clubs including Sporting and Vitória de Guimarães won their UEFA matches. While Benfica and FC Porto lost their respective matches. Portuguese club Sporting de Braga made a draw in the UEFA competition. The performance of the Portuguese teams in last week’s UEFA competition is as follows:

  • Champions League: Sporting vs Manchester City (4-1)
  • Champions League: FC Bayern Munich vs S.L. Benfica (1-0)
  • UEFA Europa League: Lazio vs FC Porto (2-1)
  • UEFA Europa League: IF Elfsborg vs Sporting de Braga (1-1)
  • European Conference League: Victory FC vs FK Mladá Boleslav (2-1)

An outstanding performance from the Portuguese team earned them some points during their impressive football journey. The results of the Portuguese teams will earn them 3 points for the last week. 2 points are obtained from each win (Sporting and Vitória de Guimarães) while 1 point is earned due to the draw by the Portuguese team (Sporting de Braga).

Portugal also received an additional 1,000 points for the UEFA rankings. These 1,000 points are obtained by dividing the points among the 5 Portuguese teams who are participating in the European tournaments. Before the recent round of UEFA matches, Portugal had 54,216 points. Now, after the completion of the round, Portugal sits with 55,216 points after the results for the competition are in as Portuguese clubs succeed.

Portugal Little Behind Netherlands

The five Dutch teams who participated in the UEFA competition had 3 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss during last week. Netherland teams including Ajax, PSV, and AZ Alkmaar won their matches while Twente drew its respective match. The other Dutch team, Feyenoord lost its respective match. The results of the Dutch teams in the UEFA competition are as follows:

  • Champions League: Feyenoord vs RB Salzburg (1-3)
  • Champions League: PSV vs Girona (4-0)
  • UEFA Europa League: Ajax vs (5-0)
  • UEFA Europa League: AZ Alkmaar vs Fenerbahçe SK (3-1)
  • UEFA Europa League: Nice vs Twente (2-2)

The Netherlands have gained a total of 7 points from these 3 wins and 1 point from the draw. A total of 8 points have been gained by the Netherlands during the latest round of UEFA competition. These points have been split between the teams which were competing in the competition. This marks an addition of 1,166 points to their ranking. The Dutch have increased their point from 57,400 to 58,566 points in the UEFA rankings.

Portugal Ranking Close To England

Portugal is trying to catch up with the Netherlands and England. The difference between Portugal and the Netherlands was 3,184 points at the start of the 2020-21 season. This difference has increased to 3,350 points now. The Netherlands stands in seventh place in the UEFA standings. Even though the gap between Portugal and the Netherlands has grown apart, Portugal has still managed to be closer to England.

England has moved from 8,571 points to 9,428 points whereas Portugal has moved from 8,200 points to 9,200 points. The Portuguese team had 41 points before last week’s game which was increased by 4 points from the wins of Sporting and V. Guimarães while 1 point from Braga’s draw. Now, the total points tally is 46 points. The total point in the entire season is 9,200 points at this moment.

England increased their points tally by 857 points while Portugal increased their points tally by 1,000 points. England gained 6 points, 2 points for each win during the European competition. Manchester United, Chelsea, and Liverpool won their matches while Manchester City, Aston Villa, and Arsenal lost their respective matches. The results of the English teams are as follows:

  • UEFA Europa League: Manchester United vs PAOK FC (2-0)
  • UEFA Europa Conference League: Chelsea vs Noah (8-0)
  • Champions League: Liverpool vs Leverkusen (4-0)
  • Champions League: Sporting vs Manchester City (4-1)
  • Champions League: Club Brugge vs Aston Villa (1-0)
  • Champions League: Inter Milan vs Arsenal (1-0)

England has gained 857 points in the last week. Portugal is now 228 points behind England in the UEFA ranking. The points tally was 371 points before the previous week and now the difference is 228 points.
