The ranking for the best universities has been released which contains a list of the top 1000 universities. 6 Portuguese universities fall into the top 1000 universities of the world. Of these 6 universities, 5 lie within the top 300 best universities.
Rankings For Best Universities Released
The rankings of the top 1000 best universities in the world have been released. This year, the first place was taken by Harvard University which is no doubt the best university in the world. The ranking for the year 2024 has Harvard in first place and the North American institutions of higher education also occupy the second and third place. This list also includes the University of Lisbon which is the highest-ranked university that is present in the list within Portugal. This is great news for the citizens who want to pursue majors in some of the most complex fields.
Harvard was at the first-place last year and this it is the same case with this year. The second place is taken by the Stanford University followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology at the third place. Both these universities are also present in the United States of America. These rankings are according to the 2024 Academic Ranking of World Universities.
The top 10 universities in the list are dominated by the North American universities. There are only just two exceptions in the top 10 list. Two universities from United Kingdom occupy the spot in the top 10 list. The 4th and 6th spot goes to University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford respectively.
5 Portuguese Universities Are Ranked In Top 300
There are 5 Portuguese universities that have occupied their spot in the top 300 best universities in the world. The best ranking is given to the University of Lisbon among all the Portuguese universities. It is followed by the following Portuguese Universities that are ranked in the top 300 list:
- University of Lisbon
- University of Porto
- University of Aveiro
- University of Coimbra
- University of Minho
All these five Portuguese universities are ranked between the 201-300 bracket of the list. This is such an honor for Portugal that five universities have been ranked at the top 300 level. Another Portuguese university, NOVA University of Lisbon has been ranked between 701-800 bracket which is still in top 1000 universities of the world.
The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) was first ever published in June of 2003. This list was published by Center for World Class Universities (CWCU) and Graduate School of Education of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China (previously known as Institute of Higher Education). Now this list is updated every year to see which university has gained it’s ranking by increasing the standard of education.
