Surfing is one of the most interesting sports. Recently, a universal surfing qualification circuit was conducted where Mafalda Lopes wins Lacanau Pro. The Lacanau Pro, a French surfing competition was conducted where Portuguese surfer, Mafalda Lopes won the tournament.
Mafalda Lopes Wins Lacanau Pro
Mafalda Lopes has won her first-ever international title outside Portugal by grabbing the winning spot of Lacanau Pro. This was her second international title in her career. It was a big win for her and Portugal.

This was the third competition of the Portuguese surfer. She has already participated in two Caparica Surf Fest which were held in Portugal. She won one of the two Caparica Surf Fests and lost the other one. In 2021, she lost the surfing competition to Teresa Bonvalot which was her first competition. In 2023, she battled against the French representative, Pauline Ado in 2023. This time, she was successful in her venture and won the first-ever competitive competition in her career.
The Portuguese surfer had a tough battle with other opponents. She is 23 years old and has already won the tournament by defeating some of the big names. Mafalda Lopes moved to the championship match when she defeated the Spanish competitor, Janire Gonzalez Extabarri.
Moving on to the semi-finals, where her match was scheduled against the Basque team. She scored an astonishing point of 10.84 (7.17 and 3.67 in 2 rounds). The Basque team had only 9 points (4.33 and 4.67 collectively).
The final of the Lacanau Pro was quite interesting. Mafalda had to battle with Tessa Thyssen from France. This was a tough match where both opponents performed well. In the end, Mafalda took first place with 10.76 points (5.83 and 4.93 collectively) in the final of the tournament. Tessa Thyssen took second place with a total of 9.34 points (4.67 and 4.67 collectively).
Other Portuguese Surfers In The Competition
The other surfers also performed well in the competition. There were some disqualifications and early blows to some of the surfers. Some other Portuguese also participated in the competition as well. Apart from Mafalda Lopes, three other Portuguese were in the surfing competition. Unfortunately, their journey came short when two of them got out early and Kika took fifth place.
Kika Veselko who came fifth in the French championship was out of the competition in the quarterfinals. Guilherme Ribeiro and João Maria Mendonça both were eliminated in the fifth round. Guilherme came in ninth place in the men’s tournament while Joao came in thirteenth place in the competition.
There is a good scope for the future of Portuguese surfing. These professional swimmers have also inspired the young generation to pursue surfing as a sport. Since Portugal is famous for its beaches, naturally there are a lot of surfers who enjoy the waves. Surfing has been promoted in the country and with people like Mafalda Lopes, hopefully more citizens will join her in becoming a professional at surfing.
