In Portugal, state-owned museums, monuments, and palaces offered free entry on Sundays and public holidays. However, that ended on August 1st, 2024. Now the free entry is not limited to Sundays and public holidays.

The Portuguese nationals and residents of Portugal can now have 52 days of free access. The best part is that these 52 days of free access per year can be of their own choice. Dalila Rodrigues, the Minister of Culture explained that this measure will help manage the flow of visitors in the museums.
The minister said that:
What changes is that Portuguese people and residents of Portugal now have 52 days per year, on any day of the week, to visit the 37 public museums, monuments, and palaces free of charge, complete freedom. We can visit any day of the week.
When explaining the change she added:
The free entries, which until now had been limited to Sundays and bank holidays, now offer full freedom of action and choice. There is no reason for Portuguese people and residents of Portugal not to visit our museums and monuments.
In order to enter these locations, visitors need to first register at the ticket offices. They will have to present their identification at the time of registration. This process will allow the government to track their 52-day limit in a central database.
Since the regulation took effect in August, only 22 days remain this year for free visits to the various palaces, monuments, and museums. Here is a list of museums, monuments, and palaces in Portugal that can now be visited for free:
