Portugal is gradually raising its ratings in the list of most searched countries in the world. It has ranked in 3rd place for most searched in the last 12 months. Most searched country Portugal was also in the first place for most searched tourist places up until July.

Google has released the data for domestic searches by the citizens of Portugal. The most searched-for according to publituris tourist place in the country is Porto followed by Madeira, which came in second place. Madeira had as many Google searches this year as in the last 10 years. The third place is awarded to the Azores. These three cities are the most searched and after them, the list continues as follows:

  5. Funchal
  6. Cascais
  7. Ponta Delgada

Tourist places are being more searched than other searches on Google. Most citizens are looking to spend their holidays in the beautiful regions of the country. The Portuguese citizens have also searched for foreign tourist places to spend holidays. The list of foreign tourist places searched by Portuguese is as follows:

  2. Maldives
  3. Turkey
  4. Santorini
  5. Bali

Trending Google Searches for Holidays in Portugal

Google has revealed the searches for what people are looking for on the internet. The top place for most searched in Portugal was Disneyland Paris followed by the Eiffel Tower which came in second place.

The trend for going to beautiful places for holidays has been increasing and people are looking to spend more on traveling comfortably. This is also shown by the trends shown on Google that people are searching for the “best” way of traveling instead of “cheap”. The 2024 searches have shown that people are ready to pay a little extra to travel more comfortably.

According to the statistics, it is shown that 54% of people are ready to pay a little more for an upgrade in accommodation places, and 47% of people are ready to pay for an upgrade in traveling upgrades to flights or trains until it becomes too expensive. These decisions are taken on the basis of having a “once in a lifetime experience” for their trip.

The UEFA European Football Championship and the Summer Olympics scheduled in 2024 have increased the traveling within Europe. The European Football Championship is scheduled in Germany and the Olympics is scheduled in France. This will result in a lot of people traveling from Portugal to these countries, hence increasing the overall traveling in Europe. The mode of transportation chosen by people across Portugal and Europe has been the train lately. The overnight train is preferred by people more than cars, busses and planes. The train journey has been increased by 35% during the previous year 2023-2024. It has been found in a study that a third of all Europe travelers prefer to travel by train rather than plane.
